Different floors can show different dashboards because each floor is equipped with a different mix of sensor types and enabled capabilities, based on its layout, use cases, and monitoring goals. Read more How Sensor Setup Determines Data in Butlr.
How dashboards are determined
The dashboard you see is driven by:
- Which sensors are installed (what data can be collected)
- Which capabilities are enabled (how that data is interpreted and displayed)
Sensor Types & What They Measure
Traffic Sensors
- ✓ Count people entering and exiting
- ✓ Track activity patterns and flow
- ✗ Cannot measure real-time occupancy
Best for: Entrances, restrooms, hallways, event spaces
Presence Sensors
- ✓ Estimate real-time occupancy
- ✓ Calculate space utilization
- ✓ Detect room/zone activity
- ~ Provides occupancy estimation
Best for: Meeting rooms, hot desk zones, collaboration areas
Motion Sensors
- ✓ Whether motion is detected in a space
- ✓ Determining if a space is active or inactive
- ✗ Cannot determine how many people are present
Desk Occupancy Sensors
- ✓ Whether an individual desk is occupied
- ✓ Desk-level utilization and availability
Data Capabilities (What Your Dashboard Shows)
1. Entry/Exit Traffic Counts
What it means:
- Tracks how many people enter and leave a space
Powered by:
- Traffic sensors
How it appears:
- Activity levels (e.g., Quiet / Busy)
- Entry/exit trends over time
2. Open Area Occupancy Estimates
What it means:
- Estimates how full a space is in real time
Powered by:
- Presence sensors (and optionally motion signals)
How it appears:
- Occupancy levels (e.g., Low / Moderate / High / Near Capacity)
3. Desk Occupancy
What it means:
- Shows whether individual desks are occupied or available
Powered by:
- Desk occupancy sensors
4. PIR Zeroing Calibration (Feature)
What it means:
- Improves occupancy accuracy by automatically resetting counts when a space is empty
How it works:
- Combines traffic (IN/OUT) with presence/motion detection
- When a room is detected as empty, the system recalibrates occupancy to zero
- Continuously corrects drift over time
Result:
- More reliable, near real-time occupancy estimates
Pro Tip
Use the floor plan view to:
- See exactly where sensors are installed
- Understand what data is available in each space
- Identify why certain metrics appear (or don’t appear)
