General Sensor Installation: Aligning Physical Setup with Your Butlr Digital Twin in Studio

This guide assumes you’ve already set up your virtual Space in Butlr Studio. If not, start Setting Up Your Virtual Space in Butlr Studio.

Assign Sensor to a Placeholder in Studio Using MAC Address

Remove a sensor from its packaging and locate the MAC address on the label at the back.

  • Manually enter the MAC address under Device Information, or
  • Use the QR code scanner to autofill the MAC address.

Click Save to confirm the Studio settings.

Turn On the Heatic Sensor

Each sensor is pre-installed with batteries. When powered on, the LED should flash yellow, blue, or green. Learn more: Understanding LED Indicators.

If the LED doesn’t light up, open the back cover and check battery installation.

For standard kits (not Eval Kits), sensors are shipped with the default Network ID, which causes a yellow LED flash when switched on.
If the LED flashes blue, reset the sensor’s Network ID to default using How to Reset a Device’s Network ID.

Mount Heatic Sensor & Update Settings in Studio

Refer to model-specific sensor mounting guide for best practices:

Sensor Orientation: A small arrow on the sensor indicates the correct orientation. Ensure this matches the orientation in Studio.

Sensor Settings: After mounting, update device-specific settings in Studio, including:

  • Installation height
  • Orientation
  • Mounting method
  • Exact placement
  • Custom fields as needed

Install Hive (Before or After Sensor Installation)

Refer to the General Hive Installation Guide for step-by-step instructions.

Device Pairing & Configuration

Sensor-Hive Pairing:
Use the Hive UI (Pairing Sensors to Hive Using the Built-In Screen) for small-scale deployments or pilots. For larger setups, use Butlr Workbench

Assign Sensor Mode:
Assigning Sensor Mode via Studio will be available in Q3 2025. Until then, please contact Butlr Support for configuration assistance.

Deployment QA

Use the following checklist to verify installation quality:

  • Sensor frame rate
  • Sensor mode
  • Orientation
  • Obstructions or coverage issues
  • Doorline settings
  • Adjust A/B doorlines based on thermal signature
  • Main entrance configured (if needed)
  • Battery status
  • Accurate location in building
  • Correct installation height
  • Correct mount type in Studio
  • Time zone set
  • Sleep schedule configured

For a detailed QA walkthrough, refer to the Deployment QA Guidelines.
