Device Connection Status Explained

This article explains the different device status types in the Butlr system and what they mean, to help with fleet health monitoring and troubleshooting.

You can view device status on the Butlr Dashboard:

  • Under Studio (by clicking a device icon to open the sensor settings panel)

  • On the Device page (connection status overview)

Sensor Status

🟢 Connected

The sensor is online and actively sending data.

🔴 Not Connected

The sensor is currently not sending data. Possible reasons include:

  • The sensor lost connection to its gateway (Hive)

  • The batteries are depleted

  • The sensor is not paired with any Hive

When a sensor shows this status, data from its coverage area is not being collected.

 🟢 Schedule Idle

The sensor is in scheduled sleep mode. While idle, the sensor does not stream or collect detection data.

🟠 Partially Connected (deprecated)

This status is being phased out. Sensors will now only display Connected, Not Connected, or Schedule Idle.

  • You may still see Partially Connected in older deployments or on sites using outdated Hive software.

  • Treat Partially Connected the same as Not Connected—it means data loss.

Hive Status

🟢 Connected

The Hive is online and at least one paired sensor is actively streaming data.

🔴 Not Connected

The Hive is offline and unreachable. This may be due to:

  • Power loss

  • Internet connection loss

When a Hive is not connected, all sensors paired with it experience complete data loss.

⚠️ Not Streaming Data

The Hive is online, but none of its paired sensors are sending data. (This can also mean no sensors are currently paired with the Hive.)

 🟢 Schedule Idle

The Hive is in scheduled sleep mode.

  • If online, it will display Schedule Idle.

  • If offline, it will display Not Connected.
