This document outlines the key considerations and limitations when installing Heatic Sensors (Butlr's heat-based people sensors). For detailed mounting instructions specific to each sensor model, refer to:
[Heatic 1 & Heatic 2] Mounting Guide
General Guidelines
HVAC Vents
Sensors should not be mounted directly on or next to HVAC vents on the ceiling. Cold air blowing on the sensor can cause it to overestimate temperatures, reducing accuracy. A distance of approximately 1 foot away from HVAC vents is recommended for optimal sensor performance.

Effect of Door Position
Closed Door: Mount the sensor on the non-door-swing side of the doorway for better performance. This provides the sensor more time to track people.
Open Door: Sensor performance remains the same regardless of the side on which it is mounted.
Effect of Sensor Rotation
The sensor can be mounted either perpendicular or parallel to the doorway or wall. The direction of the arrow does not affect performance, but ensure the Studio setting matches the sensor's physical orientation.
Doorline Position in Studio
- The doorline should be trimmed to the actual door width, but it’s better to make it slightly too wide than too narrow.
- Set the doorline between a minimum of 0.2 and a maximum of 0.8, ideally between 0.25 and 0.75 to allow for 2 columns of thermal pixels.
- Ensure the doorline is as close as possible to the actual door threshold while meeting the above criteria.
